New: watch your coding agents work, step by step, on a live board. Try the demo, no account

Use Taskhold with Conductor

By Jake Marsh, who builds Taskhold. Updated 2026-10-26. Facts about other tools checked 2026-10-26. 2 min read.

Conductor runs Claude Code and Codex in parallel workspaces on your Mac. Each workspace loads the agent's own MCP config and reads CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md from the repo, which is all Taskhold needs: one list the workspaces take tasks from, and a live board of what each is doing, even from your phone.

The pattern behind it: running several agents on one list. For a terminal-based runner, see Claude Squad.

What you get

  • Workspaces that don't pick the same task, because a started task shows as in progress to all of them.
  • A card per workspace with its steps, progress and last message, labelled with the workspace name.
  • Blocked questions from any workspace collected under Needs you, answered from the board.

Set it up

Conductor doesn't have its own MCP format: Claude Code and Codex sessions use their own config. Add Taskhold at user scope so every workspace sees it:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user taskhold https://taskhold.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <your atd_sk_ key>"
For Codex, add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml as on the [Codex page](/for/codex).

Commit the workflow to CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md. Conductor sets CONDUCTOR_WORKSPACE_NAME in every agent process, so ask the agent to use it as its label:

## Tasks (Taskhold)

The person and I share a task list through the taskhold MCP tools. They watch a live board while I work.
- Session start: taskhold_get_current, then taskhold_updates for replies. Nothing in progress? taskhold_list status:todo and take the highest priority.
- taskhold_start before working on a task (agent: "Claude Code in <repo>").
- More than a couple of steps: taskhold_plan, then taskhold_start and taskhold_complete each step.
- taskhold_progress at milestones (N of M, or a percent) with a short message. Every few minutes at most.
- Need a decision: taskhold_block with one specific question, then check taskhold_updates.
- Done: taskhold_complete with what changed and how I checked it.
- A TODO or bug I'm not fixing now: taskhold_create (or taskhold_create_from_todo with file and line).
- In a Conductor workspace: use the agent label "Claude Code in $CONDUCTOR_WORKSPACE_NAME" (echo $CONDUCTOR_WORKSPACE_NAME).

The MCP status dialog in Conductor's composer shows whether taskhold connected.

One limit to know

Conductor's enterprise data privacy mode turns off custom MCP servers, and Conductor Cloud workspaces don't read your local ~/.claude.json, so neither sees Taskhold. On local workspaces with the default settings it works as above.
