> What Taskhold means by blocked, step, progress report, agent label, setup URL, API key and live board, so agents, docs and people mean the same thing.

The words the docs, the live board and the MCP tools use, each in one or two sentences. Start with the [quickstart](/docs/quickstart) if you haven't connected an agent yet.

First check whether it's us: [/status](/status) runs live checks of the database, the MCP server and the live stream.

## Terms

| Term | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| Blocked | A task an agent can't continue without you. The agent sets it with taskhold_block and one question; it goes to the top of the live board until you reply. |
| Step | One part of an agent's plan for a task, created with taskhold_plan. Steps are subtasks with their own status; the progress bar is split by them. |
| Progress report | A short update an agent sends with taskhold_progress: a percent or a count such as 12 of 40, plus a message. Reports on one task within 5 seconds of each other merge. |
| Agent label | The name shown on a task, such as "Claude Code in api-server". The agent passes it to taskhold_start; otherwise it comes from the client name or the key's name. |
| Setup URL | A link from Settings that configures an agent and carries a fresh API key. Paste it into the agent once; it expires after 3 days. |
| API key | The bearer token an agent sends on every call. Use one per machine and revoke it in Settings. |
| Live board | /dashboard/live: every task an agent is working on, with steps, progress, time left and blocked questions. |
